GETAWAYS • Hamptons Intel
As tomato season finally arrives in full out east, a dose of mid-July intel from the Hamptons.
SAG HARBOR: A FOUND operative reports from an Amagansett favorite which has opened in Sag Harbor: “Doubles Sag (above) has a jerk chicken sandwich with a bun made from a local baker that is insanely good. They don’t have as much seating there — it’s more grab and go.” 51 Division St, place pickup order.
SAGAPONACK: Because the only topic that matters this summer is one’s opinion about the reborn Sagaponack General Store, a FOUND reader emails: “Not sure you reviewed the Sagaponack General Store food quite right. Their go-to item that everyone stands in line for is the breakfast sandwich. It sells out every day and creates traffic jams on Sagg Main, literally. It is from-another-planet-delicious. The sandwiches are also delish, but salads are no bueno, like actually bad with a $20(ish) price tag. Rotisserie chicken is the absolute best in the Hamptons, hands down, and only $24, a bargain of sorts. But the schmaltzy potato sides to buy are greasy, undercooked, and flavorless.” 542 Sagg Main St, closed Tuesdays.
EAST HAMPTON: A report from the newly opened South Fork outpost of Montecito (recently by way of Soho) steakhouse Lucky’s: “The Lucky’s Salad is the best salad in the Hamptons, or maybe tied with the Duryeas lobster salad that costs 4x more. Their website says they are only open Wed-Sun but they’re actually open seven days. Two weeks in, the service still needs some figuring out, but we’re here for the ride.” 85 Montauk Hwy, reserve.
