It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
Fridays are usually my in-office days, which means the afternoon is spent wrapping up client calls, reviewing creative work, and tying up loose ends before the weekend. I really love what I do. At DEPT, we help brands grow through digital products, services, and campaigns. This year we were named the most awarded agency at the Webby Awards, which felt like a big moment.
In my free time outside of DEPT, I run The Tidalist, a blog I started in 2015. It’s my creative outlet, inspired by the ocean and my love for surfing, covering art, fashion, music, travel, and culture. One of my favorite parts is curating our monthly playlist. It’s a mix of new finds and songs that never get old.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
Depending on the night, I like to keep it simple with one or two good cocktails in a place that feels relaxed and has great music. In Brooklyn, some of my go-tos are The Good Fork Pub in Red Hook and Rucola or Popina for dinner, and Public Records for its music and vibe.
In Manhattan, I find myself back at Park Bar in Union Square, Minetta Tavern and Smith & Mills in Tribeca, and Sant Ambroeus in Soho. They’re so reliable, you can’t go wrong.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I love to be outdoors. Running through Brooklyn and Manhattan is my way of clearing my head. I also try to play tennis when I can. I just signed up for court 16 to start practicing again. In the spring, I love to spend time gardening whenever I can even though it’s just on a little patch of grass out front. One of the community gardens in Boerum Hill, the Wyckoff Garden, has become a favorite spot.
Gardening has taught me patience and care, and I always think about a favorite Greek proverb: “A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” It’s such a good reminder of what it means to build something lasting not just for yourself, but for the community around you.
Any weekend getaways?
When I can, I love to go out east to the beach to surf. I have close friends in Montauk, Southampton, and Sag Harbor, so it’s always part reunion and part recharge. I’ll stop at Adam Mar for surf gear, Warm for a little shopping, and Il Buco al Mare for dinner. I’m also obsessed with Doubles. Great Caribbean when you’re out east!
In Montauk, a typical day starts with breakfast at Joni’s, a surf session, lunch from Ditch Witch on the beach, and dinner at Crow’s Nest to watch the sunset.
What was your last great vacation?
I went to Biarritz with my sister before one of my best friends got married in Cadaqués, Spain, a small town on the Costa Brava where Salvador Dalí lived. It’s one of the most magical places I’ve ever been. The wedding groups really bonded over the beauty. Some of my favorite stops included Mo Cadaqués and Tu & Jo to shop, and Compartir and Restaurant El Barroco to eat. It all feels like a place where time slows down.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
My trip to Rockhouse in Jamaica. It was my first time there, and it completely lived up to the hype. Skip the tourist spots and go where the locals eat. The oxtail stew, jerk chicken, and street food are incredible.
What store or service do you always recommend?
Skin Solutions. I struggled with hormonal acne, and Lauren Abramowitz transformed my skin. She’s truly amazing and completely changed my routine for the better. I use Miranda at KINHOUSE for color.
Where are you donating your time or money?
I support local animal shelters and A Walk On Water, which offers surf therapy for children and adults with special needs. The work they do is deeply special, and combines everything I love including community, empathy, and the ocean.
GETAWAYS • Palm Beach
The Palm Beach hustle
An FBI agent once told me that, at any given time, grifters make up about 10 percent of the world’s most prestigious zip codes. That sounds about right.
My favorite con artist story: I was standing at the crowded bar at Le Bilboquet in Palm Beach. A man in his mid-50s, dressed in smart looking attire, began chatting me up. He dropped the usual local markers: “I just came from Mar-a-Lago... blah, blah, blah.”
I eventually moved to a bar seat, and the man shifted his attention to a woman standing near me. I was within earshot, so I eavesdropped. He asked her if she’s noticed the pristine 1952 MG Roadster in British Racing Green parked out front.
“Of course,” she said. “What a beautiful car.”
He leaned in, confident and casual.
