First, a fresh subscriber rec for a knife sharpener:
In 2021 my neighbor alerted me that the “Mike the Knife truck” was parked on the street (in Hell’s Kitchen) and urged me to quickly run outside to get any knives sharpened before he left. I grabbed my stack of old Richardson Sheffield blades and ran outdoors to the truck. As he sharpened my knives, I watched people from other buildings emerging holding newspapers with knives in them, headed for the truck. It was quite a sight, and he did a great job. Steak and shake
The Skinny: An upscale steakhouse rooted in northern Mexico’s tradition of live-fire grilling, Cuerno opened last summer inside a large, airy, theatrical dining room on the northern edge of Rockefeller Center. The menu centers on preparations of USDA prime carne asada, but it’s also varied enough to create a mix-and-match feast of sumptuous tacos, fresh crudos, silky guacamole, and other Mexican staples.
