This spring, a raspberry-hued temple of mochi opened in the East Village.

At Pavlo Mochi, the ethereally soft Japanese rice cakes are prepped daily, filled with airy creams and fruit. Some flavors riff on familiar desserts, like tres leches cake and Dubai chocolate, while others are original, from banana milk jam to pistachio-raspberry. Each is finished with a colorful garnish that offers a clue to the filling inside. They’re sold in sets of four for $18 per.

Also on offer: a handful of non-mochi desserts, including Basque cheesecake, alongside eye-catching drinks, like a strawberry matcha latte. –Kat Odell
