WORK • Friday Routine
In full bloom
MOLLY FORD • owner • Flowers by Ford
Neighborhood you work in: Bushwick
Neighborhood you live in: Bed-Stuy
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
I’m the owner of Flowers by Ford, a flower design company that specializes in events, brand activations, set design, select weddings, and custom floral arrangements. I also just launched my first collaboration with a lovely jewelry company, Starling. We created three flower charms: peony, sweet pea, and cosmo.
When I have a work-free weekend, I love to start my day with a leisurely morning at home. I usually head downstairs to brew a cup of coffee, then sit in my garden to read. When I have a work event, my day starts before sunrise at the New York City Flower Market. From there, I head to our floral production studio to work with my team of florists. We spend the day prepping for the weekend's event while enjoying plenty of coffee and music.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
When in the city, my go-to dining spot is Corner Bar, followed by drinks at Swan Room. For a late-night adventure with friends, we often head to Clandenstino or Le Dive.
In Brooklyn, Cozy Royale's steak frites and manhattans are always a good idea. Allswell is another favorite, especially the outdoor corner seat, which offers prime people-watching opportunities. My order there is the house salad with grilled chicken and a glass of orange wine. Some of my favorite places to grab a drink in BK: Rhodora Wine Bar, Frog Wine Bar, Five Leaves, Minnows, and Hotel Delmano.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I love a day surrounded by nature — it's the ultimate form of leisure. This usually includes the New York Botanical Garden, Central Park, or Prospect Park. I also love shopping with my girlfriends. We recently walked all over the Upper West Side, window shopping. We stopped at The Row and TOTEME. Also thrilled to see KHAITE coming soon on Madison Ave. And I recently visited the New York Botanical Garden in The Bronx with my best friend to see their chrysanthemums display.
Any weekend getaways?
My favorite is INNESS in Accord, NY. Stay for dinner overlooking the beautiful upstate landscape and sit by the bonfire on top of the hill with a glass of wine. They also just opened a spa on the property. Accord is a very cute town! Here are a few of my local favs: Westwind Orchard, Arrowood Farms, Mill & Main Restaurant & Provisions, Cherries Roadside and General, and Ollie's Pizza. There are also plenty of small shops and vintage stores to explore.
What was your last great vacation?
In celebration of my 30th birthday, I took an unforgettable trip to the Cotswolds with my girlfriends. Among the many highlights of our adventure was an exquisite dinner at The Ox Barn. We went on a captivating tour of the Highgrove Gardens, where we immersed ourselves in the beauty of nature and indulged in a delightful high tea with champagne. Our journey continued as we explored the charming antique shops nestled in the heart of Tetbury.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
Something that I haven’t purchased yet but will be my next big-ticket purchase is this belted canvas bucket bag khaki green from TOTEME. It’s perfect for the winter and feels so classy with that canvas green fabric and brown leather.
What store or service do you always recommend?
In an effort to prioritize self-care, I’ve made a concerted effort to receive a massage every month, as well as maintain regular mani-pedi appointments. My go-to place for massages is Graham Spa in Williamsburg. Despite its modest appearance, they offer excellent massages for $50. It’s always such a treat.

Friends in high places
CHRIS BLACK • consultant and podcaster • Done To Death Projects, Public Announcement, How Long Gone
Neighborhood you work and live in: Soho
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
Fridays are usually pretty mellow since we don’t record an episode of How Long Gone, and no one seems to work past noon anymore. I’ll wake up around six and get on Twitter immediately, check my email, add links to the Public Announcement daily newsletter, and have a Chameleon Cold Brew (uncut) at home before putting on my finest Nike Dri-FIT garments and heading to Equinox on Prince Street. My trainer in Los Angeles, Hunter Seagroves, wrote a serious kettlebell program for me. It’s challenging, but also helps me avoid waiting for a bench.
If I have a meeting, I go to The Odeon or Sant Ambroeus for lunch. I try to hit Australian import Thisbowl on Bleecker if I am solo. It’s the best version of the email-job lunch that exists. Late afternoon, I get a coffee from Cafe Integral, the best in the city, a regular drip, or an iced quad cortado with some of their homemade almond milk. Then, I try to finish any work and read a bit, primarily new fiction. I like to keep up.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
The Corner Store on West Broadway, made famous by Taylor Swift, is a new place owned by The Catch Group. The whole scene fascinates me, and I can't wait to pay $30 for a shrimp cocktail. Bridges on Bowery is a beautiful room and the comté tart is banging. Tolo in Dimes Square for a kaofu salad, Gemma at The Bowery Hotel for scrambled eggs, Apollo for a bagel, Upside for pizza, and Diner in Williamsburg if someone drags me to Brooklyn.
How about a little leisure or culture?
A large portion of my friend circle is musicians. We speak to many of them on How Long Gone, but I also got my start in the music business and went to punk and hardcore shows since I was 13. My wife and I borrowed an orange Aston Martin SUV a little while back and drove to Philadelphia to see my friend Katie, aka Waxahatchee, play at The Fillmore. She just got nominated for a Grammy for her album “Tiger’s Blood.” She deserves to win. Recently, I saw The Killers at the 02 in London, Father John Misty in Grand Rapids, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan at the Forum in Los Angeles, Maggie Rogers at Madison Square Garden, and MJ Lenderman at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. It’s fun to take in the spectacle and see what your friends can do.
Any weekend getaways?
Charleston is my favorite city in the South (I’m from Atlanta), and we visit as often as possible. There are great hotels. The Dewberry and The Pinch are my favorites. You’re 20 minutes from the beach, and the food is incredible (FIG, Little Jack’s Tavern, Vern’s, The Ordinary). The flight is about two hours. If you take the Delta 6a return, you can be back in the city before 9a.
What was your last great vacation?
I go to Stockholm and Copenhagen a few times a year and love them both for different reasons. They’re both incredibly charming and full of good-looking people. They’ve also given us so many great clothing brands: Mfpen, Sunflower, Our Legacy, Acne, etc. It’s a part of the world with a very distinct flavor that really resonates with me.

Shop talk
MARGARET AUSTIN • owner • Outline
Neighborhood you work and live in: Boerum Hill
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
I own a women’s clothing store on Atlantic Avenue called Outline. Weekends are our busiest time and when we get the most foot traffic. Because of that, I try to keep my Fridays pretty laid back. My husband and I will go out to dinner somewhere in the neighborhood, like Rucola. We also love going to BAM — we’re members, and they’re always playing the best movies.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
We like to go out for breakfast before I open the shop. We’ll walk down to Cobble Hill Coffee Shop on Court or Montague Diner in Brooklyn Heights. For lunch, we recently discovered the falafel sandwich at Damascus Bakery on Atlantic Ave. — it’s so good. Everything there is great. For dinner, my parents live in Brooklyn Heights, so we’ll sometimes meet them at Noodle Pudding on Henry, a classic. Or, back on Atlantic, at al Badawi, an amazing Palestinian restaurant.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I’m a really big theater fan, honestly. Two friends and I joke that we’re a “Broadway Club” (but it’s also very serious!). We just saw Gypsy and Sunset Boulevard. I did ballet growing up, so I also love to go to the New York City Ballet. I usually go with my mom, but my husband has recently been turned onto it too.
Any weekend getaways?
My family has a house in East Hampton, so that’s where we go the most when I can get time off from the shop. I love the beach in the off-season. They recently opened a Grindstone Donuts in East Hampton, so that’s been great for breakfast while we’re there. Sam’s is an old school Italian restaurant that’s good for dinner on the main drag of East Hampton, especially their broccoli rabe pasta. Sometimes I’ll join my dad at the public driving range at Poxabogue too.
What was your last great vacation?
After I went on a buying trip for Outline, my husband and I did a long weekend in Rome. Neither of us had been since we were kids, so it was a first-time of sorts. We stayed at Hotel Locarno, which I think is a perfect hotel — the best combination of luxury and feeling homey. It has an incredible breakfast, beautiful courtyard, and everyone who works there is so nice. Another highlight was the Etruscan Museum, in a beautiful 16th century papal villa. They have very well preserved Etruscan tombs and jewelry. Our favorite meal was at La Campana — supposedly the oldest restaurant in Rome. We had fried, steamed, and marinated artichokes, all of which I recommend.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
The Tatung stainless steel rice cooker.
What store or service do you always recommend?
All of the stores on Atlantic between Hoyt and Bond!!! The Primary Essentials, Consignment BK, and Layla and particular favorites of mine. I also like facials from Dorian Skin Studio, pilates at Brooklyn Born Pilates, energy/bodywork from Jon Boschetto, and haircuts by Shelby Samaria or Anna of Boy Luv Girl.

On brand
CALLIE STANTON • svp, brand • Auberge Resorts Collection
Neighborhood you work in: Meatpacking District
Neighborhood you live in: West Village
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
I usually spend Friday afternoons working with my team at our office in the Meatpacking District. I’m the head of brand for Auberge Resorts Collection, an ultra-luxury portfolio of 30 one-of-a-kind hotels around the world. I oversee communications, social media, partnerships, the AUBERGE print journal, and our creative services team, while also collaborating closely with our development team.
Since my weekdays are filled with travel and calls, I try to reserve Fridays for creative work. My afternoons are typically spent strategizing and developing exciting partnerships, experiences, and collaborations for our hotels and the Auberge brand. Lately, much of that time has been focused on our newest hotels, The Woodward in Geneva, Switzerland and Collegio alla Querce, our extraordinary new hotel in Florence, which just opened on March 2.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
L’Artusi is our favorite restaurant in the city — we're there almost every Friday night. Lately, we’ve been stopping by Bar Pisellino or Commerce Inn for a pre-dinner drink. I love Bar Pisellino’s white Negroni and Aperol spritz, and Commerce Inn makes an excellent old fashioned. I also just joined San Vicente Bungalows, which is right around the corner from us, so I’m looking forward to adding that into the rotation when it opens.
At L’Artusi, our go-to order includes the ricotta, wagyu carpaccio, roasted mushrooms, spaghetti, and either the chicken or hanger steak. Their olive oil cake is one of the best desserts in the city. If you go to L’Artusi and don’t order the olive oil cake, you didn’t really go to L’Artusi.
On Saturday nights, we usually try a new spot, or rotate through some of our other favorites, like Raf’s (best bread basket in NYC, and the caramelized white chocolate budino is to die for), Polo Bar, Waverly Inn, and Raoul’s (steak frites, profiteroles, and a martini — always). We also love Forge (best chicken in the city), Torrisi (I dream about their tortellini pomodoro), Carbone, and Barbuto. In terms of new spots, I’m absolutely loving Le Veau d’Or and Borgo right now. My dinner at Le Veau d’Or was the best meal I had in 2024.
How about a little leisure or culture?
Cafe Carlyle, which feels like you’ve stepped back into the golden age of New York. It’s one of the most quintessential New York experiences and the talent is always outstanding. We love to go for a drink at Bemelmans before the show — they make the best martinis in New York City.
Any weekend getaways?
Nantucket is our happy place. We’re there almost every weekend in the summer and try to visit as much as possible in the fall and spring. It’s also magical and incredibly peaceful in the winter. For a small island, Nantucket has an exceptional dining scene, and its beaches are some of the best on the East Coast. If you only have a long weekend, my perfect three-day itinerary would include:
Dinner: Straight Wharf (order the clam bake, scallops, ribeye, and galette), Nautilus (for the blue crab fried rice and duck), and The Pearl (book the dining room and get the off menu steak and eggs appetizer).
Lunch: Cru, Galley Beach, and Millie’s. Or grab sandwiches from Something Natural to bring to the beach.
Drinks: Club Car, Ventuno back bar, and Cru back bar are always a fun scene for drinks. Gaslight and The Chicken Box also have great live music.
Sweets: Juice Bar makes the best homemade ice cream in the world and you must try Wicked Island Bakery’s famous morning bun.
Shopping: Some of my favorite boutiques include Dawn, Erica Wilson, Nantucket Looms, Olivela, and Gypsy.
What was your last great vacation?
Greece last summer. We started in Athens and then spent five days on Paros, which we absolutely loved. We’ve recommended Paros to several friends since, and everyone came home raving about the island. We ended the trip with four magical days at Auberge’s Grace Hotel on Santorini. It’s located in Imerovigli, one of the most serene parts of the island, known for its views of the Caldera.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
I tend to prioritize experiences over things, so most of our big-ticket purchases are travel-related. That said, I also love bags and jewelry. I just bought myself the new Bottega Bang Bang bag in chocolate. I love how it pairs with almost everything. It’s the perfect day-to-night bag.
What store or service do you always recommend?
I love Zitomer Pharmacy on the Upper East Side. It’s a true NYC gem, a one-stop shop for everything from beauty essentials and unique gifts to high-end skincare and wellness products.

Starry eyed
DAVID ‘MR. STARCITY’ WHITE • artist
Neighborhood you live in: Upper East Side
It’s Friday afternoon, how are you rolling into the weekend?
Fridays are a special rhythm in my week, a time to step back, clean, and prepare my studio for weekend visits. The weekdays are for deep, uninterrupted work, where ideas take shape and pieces come to life. Then, on the weekends, I open my doors and share that journey.
Whether it’s collectors, curators, or fellow artists, I love the conversations that unfold in my space. Hearing different perspectives, exchanging ideas, and seeing my work through fresh eyes is a gift. Every visit is a reminder that art doesn’t exist in isolation — it’s a dialogue, a connection. I’m deeply grateful for everyone who takes an interest in what I create, and for the opportunity to share something that, for much of the process, lives quietly in my own world.
Where are you drinking or dining this weekend?
Restaurants have become a second home to me. Between late nights in the studio and my love for the energy of a familiar spot, I hardly eat at home anymore. There’s something special about walking into a place where you’re treated like family — it’s one of the best feelings, especially in New York. One of my favorite Italian spots is Uva Next Door on the Upper East Side. If you go, ask for my off-menu signature, the StarCity salad. Trust me, it’ll blow your mind. I also love Frevo, a gem in Greenwich Village. I recently exhibited there as part of When We Bloom, curated by Destinee Ross-Sutton.
How about a little leisure or culture?
I always make time to visit Salon 94. Housed in a beautifully restored Upper East Side townhouse designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, the gallery spans three floors, each offering a unique and immersive experience. The blend of classical architecture with contemporary art creates a magical atmosphere that's both inspiring and invigorating.
Any weekend getaways?
My favorite weekend escape is heading Upstate, somewhere quiet, a few hours away from the city. I like to visit the Castle Hotel & Spa in Tarrytown. This historic estate, with its majestic stone architecture and tranquil gardens, feels like stepping back in time. While in the area, I always dine at Blue Hill at Stone Barns.
What was your last great vacation?
I rang in the New Year in Costa Rica. It holds a special place in my heart, especially Playa Flamingo, where I stay with a close friend whose home overlooks the beach from atop a mountain. The panoramic views of the ocean, coupled with the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, create a daily spectacle that's both humbling and rejuvenating. Each morning, I strolled down to Hibiscus, a charming local restaurant known for its fresh açaí bowls and healthy offerings.
What’s a recent big-ticket purchase you love?
My most recent big-ticket purchase was a custom-made 18K gold pendant, inspired by one of my art pieces that went to auction and sold for a significant amount. That moment felt so special, I wanted to memorialize it in gold — something timeless. I created the piece in collaboration with SLR Jewels, the jewelry company I co-founded with my best friends, Stevie and Telli. Since then, we’ve been crafting and selling unique, beautifully designed pieces for everyone to collect and wear.
